I used kernel 2.6.31.9 on kanotix 32bit with Debian lenny 5.0, and ndiswrapper 1.56 from sourceforge
I followed the installation README.TXT for the rtl8192se_linux_2.6.0010.1012.2009 (located in the folder created when its un-tarred.) also followed this link for ndiswrapper http://wiki.freespire.org/index.php/Setting_up_Ndiswrapper
The light came on and i finished the install by adding ndiswrapper to /etc/modules so that rebooting it gets initiated automatically.
