The driver ipw2100 that is shipped with ubuntu 11.11 appears not to work on a t42 with this wireless card. I tried Ndiswrapper and it works. One must download a driver file from the address above and use

cabextract <filename.exe>

to unpack the file and find the INF and SYS files corresponding to this card.
